12/28: 648 words. This trick in Chapter 1 of Walls Ascending is going to be in communicating that it starts ten years after Vulcan Rising left off, without stating it overtly.

Regardless, the first chapter of the book starts with a fun scene with a small group of teenagers in the woods, trying to one-up each other. I think it feels genuine. And it calls back to one of Agatha’s scenes in the middle build of Vulcan Rising. So far, I’m feeling good about the way the book starts.
